We should expect our government to collect and spend our money in the most efficient manner possible, that the burden is fairly shared with our fellow citizens, and that it be done in a manner that respects our life, liberty and property. The Arkansas Property Tax fails on all counts.

The Arkansas Constitution states: “Property taxes constitute a lien on property and bind that property from the first Monday in January of the assessment year until the taxes are paid in the collection year”.

Owning a piece of property gives you the opportunity to improve it, to turn your own labor into value, to profit without anyone or anything between you and your success. But in Arkansas you can never own a piece of ground.

Each year Arkansas Counties spend millions assessing, re-assessing and collecting money that the sales tax system could collect for nothing while putting the decision of when and how much to pay in the hands of the tax payers instead of the tax collectors.

One day soon the bill will come due for the money we have allowed the Federal Government to spend on our behalf. On that day the immorality of property taxes will become obvious because the value of the U.S. dollar will be exposed for what it is. People who have worked a lifetime will learn that the money they paid into the Social Security System was stolen; and then they will be evicted from the home they spent 30 years paying for.

Under Section 22 of Article 19, Amendments can be proposed by either house of the Arkansas General Assembly and would qualify for the ballot upon approval by a simple majority of both houses.

Our representatives work for us. Ask them to support an amendment that would allow each county to decide how to collect our taxes.
